Swissted aka Mike Joyce has long been a design idol of mine. I first came upon the design series, which reimagines posters of famous (and not-so-famous) rock bands from the 1980s, on an art website a few years ago. I bought a few of the posters at that time & over the past couple years have acquired more at flea markets & pop up shops around Brooklyn. Friends of mine will recognize the "3" poster which I have a massive print of & is usually displayed in my living room.
It was fun trying to reverse engineer Mike's work. Unfortunately I didn't have the Berthold Akzidenz-Grotesk font he uses, so I substituted the similar Helvetica. The design seems simple, but it actually took me quite a bit longer than expected for the Pixies piece. I learned how to use a clipping mask, how to repeat & evenly distribute objects & how to properly proportion fonts.
Disclaimer: This is merely an exercise to improve my design skills. The original design wholly attributed to Mike Joyce & I have no intentions of reproducing or selling my copies. If you like the posters, check out his shop where you can buy them all!
