I've been itching to take some interior photos, but with no immediate possibilities, I thought: why not photograph my own apartment!? It helped that I am packing for a very impromptu trip to Los Angeles & was in the mood for some cleanup / rearranging. As this is my third apartment in New York, I've started to notice some of my own decorating patterns: 1. I love white walls & a white bed - I use tons of color everywhere else, so having these two more muted balances the room. 2. Books are an important form of decoration to me. They make the room look cozy & I love the idea of being physically surrounded by endless stories. 3. Always have a gallery wall that changes constantly. 4. Everything else should have color. The dresser, the chair, the bench. In my last apartment, I spray painted my vintage vanity electric yellow!
In addition to my decorating tendencies, I am a collector of objects. There are a few that are very dear to me including: my elephant collection (and especially the pink one Thomas gave me when we first started dating), my grandmother's gold mirror, my bright yellow collectibles shelf, bought with my best friend Katarina in Brooklyn, my paper maiche mask from a trip to Peru, my weird animal clock that yells at me in Japanese every morning (from my childhood friend Shiori), and my ficus plant, bought from my garden mentor, Demba.
I guess I'm all set if I ever decide to put it up on Airbnb!
